An Introduction to the 2nd International Congress on Advanced Materials

Xiaonong Cheng

The executive Chair for the 2nd International Congress on Advanced Materials

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to extend a sincere welcome to all of you joining us today for this 2nd International Congress on Advanced Materials hosted by Jiangsu University. I would also like to express my thanks to both the sponsors International Union of Advanced Materials and Chinese Advanced Materials Society. I greatly appreciate the participation of our keynote speakers and the panelists

The term 'Materials' is a very inclusive and includes almost every thing of physical products. 'Advanced Materials' is the further development but with the emphasis on structural and functional materials. In a broad spectrum, advanced materials include all materials that represent advances over the traditional materials that have been used for hundreds of years. With the great mind of our time, the 'International Congress on Advanced Materials' has been proposed. The objective has been the testament to the rapid progress we have enjoyed over the recent years in the field of advanced materials.

As the executive chair, I am greatly delighted to help organize the 2nd Congress in the field of advanced materials. With the participation of 600-plus researchers and scientists from across the world, the congress is demonstrating prestigious in this field. 10 supporting journals including Journal of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers and Materials (JIOPM; Springer), Monatshefte für Chemie - Chemical Monthly (CM; Springer) Journal of the Chinese Advanced Materials Society (JCAMS; Taylor Francis), Journal of Energetic Materials (JEM; Taylor & Francis), Journal of Nano Research (JNanoR; Trans Tech), Polymers & Polymer Composites (PPC; Smithers Rapra), Current Organic Chemistry (COC; Bentham Science), Key Engineering Materials (KEM; Trans Tech), and The Open Electrochemistry Journal (TOEJ; Bentham Science), and American Journal of Environmental Science (AJES; Science publications) have included some 700 full manuscripts and 275 abstracts for the congress. The host Jiangsu University has played an important in helping run this congress. The close cooperation among the joint organizers including the University of Jinan, State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering (East China University of Science and Technology), and Hengyang Normal University have made the success feasible.

To run the 2013 Congress, the executive committee has authorized the school of materials science & Engineering to organize a specified team for conference. I am pleased to see that their work is really good, resulting in the excellent congress's scientific program. It is also satisfying that most of the manuscript submitted to the congress have gone through scientific reviewing and editorial scrutiny. The excellent congress's scientific program and the accepted papers represent a memorable tribute not only to the lecturers and authors, but also to those who contributed to the overall success of the congress.

With my deepest feeling, I also want to express my thanks to the chairmen Professor Alaa Abd-El-Aziz and Professor Sergey A Piletsky, who have agreed me as the executive chair to organize the top congress in the field of advanced materials. Both of them have enthusiastically contributed to the success of the congress, and in fact to the publication of the congress program.

"Scientific progress is not simply based on the breakthroughs of a few elite individuals, but a result of the collective endeavours. It seems to me that progress made in the present field will require the occasional flash of brilliance, insight into a scientific problem long studied, and the collaboration of scientific minds. Above all, our dedication to this field is largely built on our predecessor work, in order to help provide us with a better world"- adopted from Dame Silvia (12 Feb 2003).

I hope that you will enjoy this congress and return home with new insights and vigour.

It gives me a great honour to declare that the 2nd International Congress on Advanced Materials is now open.
